Moving In: Everything That's Gone Wrong So Far

It seems the last tenants built a bathroom into our closet. Gasp with shock and horror ~ the closet-sized bathroom is not up to code. Instead of just slapping on a coat of paint and moving in the furniture, we have to knock down a couple walls, and rebuild them two feet that-a-way. The cost for this ~ the build itself, the state-certified architect drawings, the permits, the time it's all going to take ~ are a near catastrophic setback, especially because we've effectively missed the holiday season this year.

I brought this Christmas tree in, anyway

I think I also misplaced an entire box of MACHETE products. Misplaced, lost, forgot ~ whatever happened I don't know where it is. You'd think that scenario is absolutely unbelievable only if you've never met me. If you're out there and you found a box full of Apple Watch Bands and matching earrings, you're welcome and I hope you're enjoying them.

Since we've been closed for so long, quite a bit of our food products are starting to near their best by date. I think because we kept thinking that we would, should, be opening imminently, that it wouldn't be a problem.

On the upside, a lot of our online orders have gotten freebies (you get a chocolate bar! And you get a chocolate bar!), but it doesn't work for everything. Chocolate makes a great freebie; roasted cauliflower soup in a glass jar, not so much. Also, anything that hits its best by date just means that I have to eat it myself. I have no less than 10 bottles of turmeric concentrate to drink, and bar after bar of chocolate to eat (or, melt into a fancy cup of hot cocoa). Actually, I think that's what I wanted the whole time. 😈

Now that I've gotten it all written down, it's not actually that many things. The first this is arguably many things due to the sheer enormity of the problem, but in retrospect I can see how unrealistic it would be to luck out on location, timing, and permits all at once. If I knew that we were never going to open this year, I don't know if I would've done anything different other than maybe hoard less chocolate, and not be in such a rush all the time. Slow and steady wins the race. Patience is a virtue. Things happen in their own time. Insert more pleasant platitudes.

Well, it seems that the only way out is through, and we're excited to see you on the other side!
