Green & Bean Gift Guides

Every gifting experience is unique. Sometimes you have an event, and need a matching gift. Sometimes you have a gift, and need an appropriate occasion.
We have a dense selection of giftable items and gifts for "birthday" and "client" can be a bit broad. I hope the Gift Guides section serves as a bit of a gifting encyclopedia, where we can get a bit more specific and in-depth that cover a multitude of events, gifting styles, and how to gift for different types of people.

Candle & a Matchbox: Perfect Pairings

I’ve noticed that people often go for a combination gift rather than a standalone statement. There could be many reasons for this, but it stands to reason that having a lot of little things can feel bigger than one statement gift.

On today’s episode of Perfect Pairings, I wanted to put together one of our most classic products with one of our newest: candles, and matchboxes.

Candles have always been a staple in our little shop, and is actually the reason it exists in the first place. I actually make these! One of the reasons that got me into the candle business was working in a gift shop around the holidays and seeing how the candle shelf emptied itself before my eyes. They’re an easy gift, well-received, don’t have to clutter, and there’s infinite variations in existence.

Recently Piecework launched their new line of premium Matchboxes, which like their signature puzzles are quirky, colorful, and delightful. They’re a little fancy with their magnetic-clasp box and long stems, so they do make for good gifts. An elevated houseware that also doesn't clutter is rare gem. And, since each box is themed, it makes pairing them to a candle pretty simple.

How to Pair?

Realistically there’s not wrong way to do this. I would go through what is in stock for both the candle and the matchboxes and whichever fits the best would become the base of the gift. For example, if the person you’re shopping for used to play tennis — the Tennis Matches are an obvious choice. However, if they love tea and/or rainy days — maybe go for the London Fog candle.

The Tennis Matches are yellow, and in a green box. I would probably pair this with the Crome Yellow or Sun Salutation candle over the Earth Tones, but the Early Bird could be a good middle ground.

Conversely, the London Fog would pair nicely with the Cloud Matches. I think it’s pretty funny. The Rosey Matches and In Bloom make for a lovely spring pairing, and the Lucky Matches might be a good shout for either the Creature Comforts or Woodsman candles. Then again, do whatever suits your occasion. Maybe they love red, and the Maraschino Cherry/Phoenix Ash combination is the pair is the best visual match (ha).

Whatever you end up choosing, don't forget to add some complimentary wrapping to complete your gift!
