Our Favorite Maryland Plant Shops (+1 in DC!)

Looking to grow your plant collection? Take a gander at Ali’s favorite plant shops in Maryland and DC.

And don't forget to stop by for our Plant Swap 🪴

In honor of our new #PlantSwap, we wanted to share some of our go-to spots to pop into for plants (for future swaps 😉)

While there are a plethora of plant nurseries, they’re definitely more suited for outdoor gardeners. For those of us that tend to collect more plants indoors, finding unique plants to add to your collection can be a big ask in a typical plant nursery or hardware store. We’ve instead opted for more boutique-style plant shops that offer eclectic, ever-evolving selections.

Some of my favorite plants (and best finds!) have come from here

B.Willow ~ Baltimore, MD

Based on a corner filled with charm (pun definitely intended), B. Willow has been flourishing in the Remington neighborhood of Baltimore since 2017. Lined from floor to ceiling with plants, this shop is a green dream.

It’s clear to see founder Liz Vayda’s passion for plant conservation as much as plant cultivation. On top of housing and caring for a consistently lush selection of plants, they also regularly share information about biodiversity, plant poaching and how to find and purchase plants ethically. They offer repotting, virtual plant consultations, and even workshops! More than just a place to get a new plant shop, B.Willow is a phenomenal educational resource for any collector.

Gott Efni ~ Ellicott City

With a background in wedding design and floral design, Anna has curated a darling, quaint space in Old Ellicott City that’s perfectly mixes nature, vintage pieces, and botanical escapism. This is a great spot for not just a sweet new houseplant, but other floral accents to add to the home and other special occasions.

Unlike the other spots on this list, Gott Efni’s focus isn’t solely ~ or even mostly ~ plants. Plants are integrated seamlessly into a harmonious balance of the different ways we like to decorate our spaces with a plethora of flora.

Green Neighbor is in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore

Green Neighbor @ Good Neighbor ~ Baltimore, MD

Two words: Hilton Carter!

A few more words: Around the corner and up the stairs of Hampden’s Good Neighbor coffeehouse lives a beautiful plant haven curated to perfection. With a small greenhouse on the side and a living plant wall, Green Neighbor at Good Neighbor is a plant lover’s paradise.

Plants Alive is home to a fantastic makers market every last Sunday

Plants Alive! ~ Silver Spring, MD

Perhaps the largest of the plant shops on this list, this Silver Spring plant shop is comprised of multiple greenhouses filled with a vast array of plants from huge fiddle leaf figs and palm trees to cacti, vining plants, and much much more. 91`If you want to get lost in a world of plants, this is the spot for you!

The Sill ~ Bethesda, MD

Bethesda’s newest plant shop opened up in 2021 on Bethesda Row with a tiny but mighty selection of plants. This is their first location in Maryland, having originated in New York. They prioritize sourcing their inventory from local growers, and even host sip-and-shop events from time-to-time.

On top of their quaint brick-and-mortar location on Bethesda Row, The Sill has a robust website offering an even wider selection of plants to choose from. I’ve got my eye on an olive leaf tree.

Little Leaf is a sister store of Salt & Sundry!

Little Leaf ~ Washington, DC

For my city folk, we’ve got the lovely Little Leaf off 14th Street in DC. An offshoot from the reputable (& dreamy!) Salt & Sundry, Little Leaf specializes in living plants, but still manages to bring in some beautiful decor, mostly in the form of plant pots. Down with plain ol’ terracotta! There’s a whole world of beautiful planters out there that’s just waiting to be explored. Starting at Little Leaf.
