Modern Sprout was founded with a vision to reconnect people in urban environments with nature. It’s 2013 in the heart of Chicago and couple Nick Behr and Sara Burrows have a problem, perhaps a familiar one. They want a fresh, homegrown herb garden– but they live in the city, have no yard, no time, and no space for a homegrown herb garden. Turning to hydroponics, a system to self-water plants— Behr and Burrows set out to design a scaled-down model that could work in their city home, be productive and fit aesthetically into the space.
Starting with their hydroponic self-planter for herbs like rosemary and basil, the company has continued to grow their line and now includes urban grow kits, botanical gift sets, pollinator friendly children activity kits, seed pops, and indoor plant care accessories. It’s an ever-expanding line of gardening gifts and tools that help people grow better, anywhere.
