For all we talk about slow luxury, it should be pretty obvious why we like Slowdown Studios. It’s literally in the name: Slow down Studios. They make functional, breathable art in the form of their stunning– and I do mean stunning– tapestry blankets, with the hopes that their works can “invite you to embrace the slower moments in life.”

Founded by Marc Hendrick, Australian born and LA based, Slowdown Studios makes their 100% cotton throws with a beautiful woven texture and bold graphics designed in collaboration with different artists.

Even though designs come and go and there’s a variety of artists that have designed different pieces, all of their products are recognizably theirs. There is something very consistent about their aesthetic. It likely has a lot to do with the strong aspect of collaboration that happens within the studio.

Collaboration is clearly a huge pillar of Hendrick’s work as an artist and the pieces Slowdown produces. There’s interviews on the website with some of the different artists that have collaborated with Slowdown and/or have been featured on their stunning blankets. I may be a little biased saying this, but clearly I think there’s some merit to getting to know the whos and hows and whys a product came to be. I guess you do too, seeing as though you’re here, getting to know the whos and hows and whys these products came to be.

In terms of picking one– good luck! Each and every one of their designs are vibrant, decadent works of art. It’s almost hard to even say where the form ends and the functionality begins. Instead of putting throws away for summer, these ones can act as picnic blankets, or if you’d never put something so nice on the ground, they actually put up a very helpful page on their website about how to hang a blanket.

I'll circle back in a few years to see if this is still accurate, but I’m expecting that Slowdown Studios will be one of the brands that we carry that always has something new, exciting, and unexpected. What’s funny is that something I tend to like about the aesthetic of a lot of the brands that we carry is the timelessness to them. The staple piece that’s always in style.

Slowdown Studios is absolutely one of my favorite brands that we carry– one of my Big 3– and yet it exists on the other end of that spectrum: the statement piece.
